The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has urged netizens to promote safe and responsible use of social media, as misuse can damage the reputation of the state.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the telecom authority said: "PTA, in partnership with TikTok and Shaoor Foundation for Education and Awareness (SFEA), organised a two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) Programme on Safe and Responsible use of Social Media.
"The programme aimed to enhance digital awareness and equip participants with practical skills to address online risks such as fraud, hacking, impersonation, privacy concerns, and misinformation," said PTA, adding that experts conducted interactive sessions on cyber hygiene, child online protection, platform safety tools, reporting mechanisms, and responsible digital citizenship.
Representatives from Islamabad, Quetta, Sukkur, Lahore, Karachi, Swabi, Mardan, and Peshawar participated in the training.
Earlier, PTA said: "Responsible use of social media is a shared responsibility of all of us. Avoid spreading illegal, hateful, defamatory and false information, which may damage the reputation of state institutions, judiciary or any individual.
Moreover, the authority noted that such activities are punishable offences under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016.
