The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) on Friday warned institutions, which are not accepting digital ID cards as legal identity.
In a notification, the authority said: "Some government offices, institutions are asking for physical card or photocopy instead of digital one."
It is important to remember that digital ID card is equivalent to physical ID card. If any government office, institution is not accepting digital ID card, this practice is against the prevailing legal and regulatory framework.
"Digital identity regulations have been formulated under the Nadra Ordinance. Regulations 9 and 10 give legal status to digital identity documents." said Nadra, adding that these regulations declare digital identity documents as valid proof of identity.
The digital ID card help ensure protection of citizens' personal data, preventing misuse of identity information. The authority has reduced the need of Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) photocopies.
"Government departments, public and financial institutions, telecom operators should ensure compliance with orders."
The auhority further added that Pakistanis can easily register their complaints through Nadra's official complaint system.
