The National Database and Registration Authority on Monday announced that citizens can now easily register for their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) without the birth certificate.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the authority said: "Nadra provides facility to make identity card without birth certificate. Males over the age of 24 who have not obtained an identity card and whose father or mother and one of their sisters or brothers have an identity card or a National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) should come with their father or mother who has an identity card.

"If the parents are deceased, they should come with their brother or sister who has an identity card," added Nadra.

The authority further added: "Married women above 18 years of age who possess a computerised Nikah Nama issued by the Union Council (UC), and where either the father or mother and the husband have a valid CNIC, should come along with the Nikah Nama, the father or mother (one of them) who holds the identity card for biometric verification, and the husband."

Moreover, if the parent, mother, or husband has passed away but their record exists in Nadra, then upon providing satisfactory answers to a few questions at the office, the application will be submitted."The conditions related to the husband will not apply to unmarried women over 18 years of age."

It is important to remember that the parents' names, date of birth, and place of birth will be recorded on the identity card according to the information you provided and will not be changed for life.

Nadra has set discount on birth certificates until December 31, 2026.
