Abu Dhabi recently introduced a patient risk profiling system that uses artificial intelligence to forecast a person's risk of developing serious illnesses like diabetes and cancer before any symptoms show up.

This system was deployed in all hospitals and clinics by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), which was a major step in the transformation of healthcare in the emirate.

How the AI tool works

The artificial intelligence system examines a patient's complete medical history from birth, identifying minute trends that might be invisible to the naked eye.

As stated by Digital Health at DoH Abu Dhabi Executive Director Ibrahim Al Jallaf, "It helps doctors act early before a disease develops by studying health trends over time that even experts might miss."

Al Jallaf underlined that AI is a tool to assist doctors, not a substitute. "AI offers insights; it doesn't make decisions for doctors.

"In order to interpret the results and incorporate them into treatment plans, doctors apply their expertise," he continued.

Doctors have instant access to a patient's entire medical history thanks to the system's complete integration throughout Abu Dhabi's healthcare system.

The risk portal is linked to every hospital and clinic. Al Jallaf pointed out that a patient's entire 360-degree medical history and risk profile are immediately accessible, even if it is their first time seeing a doctor.

Abu Dhabi's dedication to using AI to enhance healthcare outcomes is demonstrated by this initiative.

The emirate hopes to revolutionise predictive medicine by utilising AI, guaranteeing early detection, better treatment, and a healthier populace.
