Bad news for Xbox aspirants: Xbox consoles are getting costlier in the US as Microsoft has announced that the handheld consoles will register price hikes.
The price increase, coming for the second time this year, was attributed to pressures from tariffs, intensifying competition, and uncertain consumer spending.
The tech giant also credited “changes in the macroeconomic environment” for the latest Xbox price adjustments, scheduled to affect the current generation of hardware.
New prices of Xbox consoles after price adjustments
With the Xbox price hike implemented, the one-terabyte Xbox Series S is now priced at approximately $450 and the high-end Series X at around $650. These prices will take effect from October 3.
Moreover, the special edition two-terabyte Galaxy Black Series X will be sold for around $800 after bearing the price increment.
The previous, and the first in the year 2025, Xbox price hike took place in May across several markets, which sets itself apart from the current one by coming into effect not only in the US, but also in Europe, Australia, and the UK.
These hikes are said to be driven by US tariffs on imports from countries like China that have raised hardware costs and shrunk profit margins.
With the inclusion of the latest price increase, the Xbox Series X price has risen by $150 in just six months, something which experts speculate to be compelling avid Xbox gamers to reconsider other options in the market that better align with their budgets.
