The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Wednesday refuted the rumours, circulating on social media platforms claiming an internet outage and disruption nationwide, spreading concerns among netizens.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PTA stated: "Information regarding any disruption of internet services on January 15 is incorrect and without factual basis. Internet services across Pakistan remain stable and fully operational.

"Routine submarine cable maintenance is ongoing and will not affect internet service. PTA continues to monitor networks to ensure uninterrupted connectivity," added the telecom authority.

It should be noted that PTA released clarification, following concerns raised after internet service provider Nayatel sent an email to its customers, informing them of scheduled maintenance work on one of Pakistan’s submarine cables on January 15, 2026, around 2pm.  Nayatel, in an email, noted that the maintenance could take up to eight hours and might lead to temporary internet slowness, though it did not identify the specific cable or its location.

Internet disruptions, slow speed and limited access are common in Pakistan in recent times, where the issue has been attributed on reasons ranging from maintenance of undersea cables, to lack of spectrum and security measures.
