The Fallout franchise, a popular post-apocalyptic role-playing series by Bethesda, proved in 2025 that it doesn’t need a brand-new game to stay relevant.

Despite no mainline release since 2018, Fallout 76, the long-running online entry, received a major boost this year, while the Amazon Prime Fallout TV series continued to expand the brand’s reach. Together, these updates made 2025 one of the strongest years for Fallout in recent memory.

Fans are enjoying Fallout Season 2, which has been rolling since December and is set to continue until early 2026. The success of the series has also managed to resuscitate the interest in the old games.

However, the same period saw the release of the Burning Springs update for Fallout 76, which included a map of Ohio and the character of The Ghoul, played by Walton Goggins.

Fallout 4 was also released with an Anniversary Edition to celebrate its 10th anniversary, thus increasing Fallout’s footprint on various platforms.

In the future, Fallout 76 is expected to be treated to Season 24 in March 2026, as announced by the roadmap schedule by Bethesda. The update on the Public Test Server already hints at massive changes in gameplay, including redesigned events renamed as “Activities”, changes in rewards, improved armor, photo mode tools, and a brand-new four-star Bigfoot boss. The updates seem to emphasise that Bethesda is doing its best to keep Fallout 76 engaged for its fans.

Although Fallout 5 is still a long way off, as Bethesda is preparing for the release of The Elder Scrolls 6, rumours of a Fallout 3 remake are growing in popularity.
