The federal government on Friday granted permission to Biman Bangladesh Airlines to operate direct flights between Dhaka and Karachi, with the aim of boosting brotherhood relations.
According to sources, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Director General (DG) gave green signal to the Bangladeshi national airline after receiving clearance from the government.
Currently, travellers between both countries depend on connecting flights via Dubai and Doha.
Sources stated that Biman Bangladesh Airlines has initially been allowed to operate flights until March 30, 2026. The airline has also been granted permission to use Pakistan’s airspace on approved routes.
The airline will need to operate strictly on designated air routes while flying through Pakistan’s airspace. They added that complete flight details must be shared with Karachi airport authorities before departure from Dhaka.
Earlier, Bangladesh High Commission to Pakistan Iqbal Hussain Khan confirmed that the airline is preparing to launch three weekly flights to Karachi.
Pakistan and Bangladesh are expected to to begin direct flight operations later this month.
